MUSICAL HEALING

As a photographer, I am given the gift of meeting spectacular people, and often sharing special moments with these (initially) complete strangers. While there is nothing quite like being there to celebrate the birthdays, engagements, graduations and growing families, one of my more rare and fun experiences has been working with friends. This summer I was so excited to work with Jess, an up-and-coming music therapist, and a friend from my expressive therapy graduate program.

Location scouting was particularly entertaining for this shoot, as I got to watch another family shooting in the Public Gardens in Boston. While looking for a few select spots of shade on that particularly hot afternoon, I saw a mother and father jumping , arms flailing, and cooing at their little one, while the photographer tried to capture the perfect happy baby smile. (And I swear, that baby knew exactly how ridiculous he was making his parents look). I loved the water and Boston-feel of shooting around the ponds, and we even paused periodically to let the swam boats swim by in the background!

Jess is not only a future music therapist and friend, but a talented musician and music teacher as well. We wandered around the area in search of different backgrounds, and I got the treat of listening to a little show from Jess as well. Some of my favorite shots were the close-up views of her fingers clicking over the guitar strings, and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the bright sounds of her flute as I posed her in front of different stone monuments. I also picked her brain about her exciting adventures to Vietnam, where she has since returned from an orphanage that she volunteered at with music therapy. I can't wait to reunite and see all of her amazing images, and hear the stories from her trip. If you want to learn a bit about her amazing adventures abroad, you can check out Jess's blog & website (link coming soon!), and check out some of my favorite shots of our shoot around downtown Boston in the gallery below...
